@historyhiveofficial.com: (Follow) us In October 1971, a private phone call took place between President Richard Nixon and California Governor Ronald Reagan. The conversation was secretly recorded as part of the White House taping system and remained hidden from the public for decades. During the call, Reagan reacted angrily to a United Nations vote in which several newly independent African nations supported a resolution critical of Israel. He complained that these countries, many emerging from colonial rule, now had equal voting power on the world stage. Reagan used openly racist language to describe African delegates, questioning their intelligence and their ability to govern themselves. His remarks reflected deep resentment toward decolonization and the changing global order. Nixon did not challenge these views and largely agreed, reinforcing the tone of the discussion. When the recording was made public years later, it sparked widespread condemnation and forced historians and the public to reassess how private conversations among powerful leaders contrasted with their public rhetoric. The tape remains one of the most controversial moments revealed by the Nixon recordings, showing how raw prejudice and political frustration existed behind closed doors at the highest levels of power. #History #documentary #unitedstates #politics #usa
