Socialism only deteriorates into an oligarchy when the workers themselves lose a grip on politics and a new ruling class is allowed to form. In Russia it happened due to the civil war and economic devastation. It happens due to material reasons not some ideological flaw.

the argument i heard as a kid was communism negates, the need for ambition for success, bit only those with means are allowed to have ambition the rest are a forced worker state. to feed the wealthy ambition
