@bradleyblair83: Seated soft tissue work to the lower back. I will often use a seated massage chair because not every patient can comfortably lie flat or on their side. Pain, stiffness, recent flare-ups, pregnancy, or simply feeling vulnerable in certain positions can all make traditional table positions unsuitable. Forcing someone into a position they cannot tolerate rarely helps and usually makes things worse. The seated position allows the patient to stay supported, relaxed, and in control. It also gives me good access to the lower back while keeping the nervous system settled rather than guarded. When someone feels safer and more comfortable, the body is far more receptive to treatment. This is what adapting treatment actually looks like. It is not about rigid protocols or doing the same thing to everyone. It is about working with the patient in front of me, on that day, with what they can tolerate. Comfort matters. Context matters. Good treatment is flexible, not forced.
