@mountain.rescue6: They have access to hay, basically all the time. They get some very good supplements. Yet, they choose to eat each others and sticks. All of them. Not one, all (8) of them. They used to say horses eat when they have deficiencies. In the past I have done multiple blood draws, never any deficiencies, yet still they like to eat each others. In our home herds it mostly looks like a learned behavior, they see one horse do it and decide to give it a go. In some scenarios it could indicate boredom, or simply being curious or indeed a deficiency. In foals it's actually more normal, they do it for their gut microbes. Harley is definitely not a foal anymore but really likes it, she literally eats her own right after she dropped it and it's still warm she's so special. #horseknowledge #horsemanship #herdlife #horseman #equestrianlifestyle
