@islaloness: Two cars. One lane. Hedges. No escape. Britain’s tiny roads exist because they pre-date cars by centuries. They began as footpaths and farm tracks, then villages grew around them. When cars arrived, the roads stayed - history first, convenience later. #britain #traveluk #uktravel #driving #englandtravel
these roads are actually easier to drive on in the dark so you can see approaching headlights lol

As much as I hate construction and the cones being all confusing... I appreciate that they have made is so we dont have to drive in these crazy anxiety fueled roads 😂😭

Back roads, narrow lanes. Not heard them called small roads though.

try West Cornwall. Those aren’t hedges they’re stone retaining walls covered in vegetation (the fields are often at a higher level than the roads)

This one seems quite reasonable! If one wheel is hovering over a muddy ditch then it's fine 🤷♂️

For added bonus points, there's the ones that follow the routes of ancient cart tracks. They're so old that the road has worn down over time so it's below the tree root level. This gives a green tunnel effect and is quite wonderful in springtime.

It’s essentially too expensive to widen them. Scotland got EU funds decades ago to widen some of the single track roads that crisscross the northern highlands, but that’s about it.

worst ones I've dealt with are near Sudeley Castle in Gloucestershire. all the passing places have 2ft+ deep holes. I know my car is a shitbox, but i can't afford more work on it 😳
