I feel like this is just a lack of intersectionality within the diaspora itself with relating with each other’s experiences. Everyone wants to be right but no one wants to listen or challenge thoughts imo 😭

i did think that the whole jacket potato and laughing at tuna and beans was insensitive. Tuna, beans, and potatoes are all cheap, struggle foods. i completely agree with you 👍

Does American exceptionalism have a subset of Black American exceptionalism?

I’m wondering if American exceptionalism is playing into this behaviour as well? I feel like it reduces curiosity about other people’s lived experience.

hey mate, love your content. I've got a question, as a white British guy I struggle with "people of colour", it reads to me as "coloured people" with the verbage slightly changed. I'm also not comfortable with grouping all non white people together. can I just ask what your opinion is?

Are you referring to American as a continent or US as a country?

this is what I said is a different video, about British Chinese food, Liverpool has the oldest China town in Europe, the Chinese people who settled in Liverpool over 200 years ago choice too, they where Chinese Sailors, some brought family some married locals, these people developed over generation Anglo Chinese food, most fish and chip shops in Merseyside are Chinese owned, sell English chippy food and Chinese food, and newly inspired mixed food like salt and pepper chips or chicken, or crispy chill beef, so when People for the USA are ripping Chinese take ways they are ripping a minority group who culture has developed over meany generations, not the white people who are buying the food.

I think almost every leftist has a blind spot to class (as in actual Marxist class analysis not the vague idea that some people have more money)

Your videos are such a breath of fresh air, hearing such nuanced and well thought out takes is so needed when so often videos surrounding these topics are boiled down to ‘culture war’ style take downs.

The only food slander I will happily accept is marmite cause as the label says you either love it or you hate it 🤣🤣 I love it but as someone who has “experienced” borvil tea (never again) 😭 I’ll take that one on the chin, now on a serious note I knew this was gonna be a good read when you pulled out the carefully planned out notes 👏❤ I was SAT 👏

One thing that I think gets to the heart of Black Americans misunderstands of the way the Black diaspora or other minority groups exist in the rest of the western world is the way that they’re perpetually surprised that the rest of the world sees them as AMERICAN not as simply ‘Black’. They’re so used to their identity being so tied to being oppositional to white America that they struggle to see that outside of their own country it’s their Americanness that is the biggest differentiator.

Being disgusted at other people's food really does indicate a lack of curiosity or understanding from people imo. you mention tripe and how people in the UK have made fun of you for that. I'm sorry you experienced that, those people are ignorant to their own backgrounds e.g white working class people will have historically eaten tripe too!
the food thing hurts, Maybe I'm thin skinned I have intense nostalgia for some British dishes and yes they aren't strongly spiced but I would argue they still have flavour, it's just a different set of flavours. all food from everywhere is great and it's often the one thing that all cultures like to share with eachother our food is our history and says a lot about us.

Yes, y’all do ridicule our food yes, you do. Why do you do this is rage? Are you serious cause there’s no way you did that whole notebook and you’re ignoring the entire history of how this happened black Americans were not checking for you. You were not even on our radaryou guys talking crazy about us is what led to this issue and you’re trying to play victim now I left the whole thread of comments here because it’s just ridiculous. I’m sorry you’re ridiculous.
