Late 90s, early aughts- we were visiting my grandparents and were looking for a “family movie,” saw this on demand and watched with ZERO KNOWLEDGE of what it was about. Had everyone sobbing by the end, my grandfather went to bed “early” so we wouldn’t see him cry 😭

The first time I watched that movie I had no idea what I was in for. I love studio Ghibli and thought I was getting something like Kiki's delivery service, Howls moving castle, Mary and the witches flower, my neighbor Totoro etc. That was not what I got. 😭

This movie broke my heart after I watched it. If A person learns absolutely. Nothing about the detrimental effects of war on the innocent if they watch this. Or refuse to consider the value of human life. Then they have no soul.
