@scalingstories: u/Brilliant-Profile163 My sister-in-law is refusing formula and fixated on exclusive breastfeeding despite her newborn repeatedly failing to gain weight, and our family is worried she’s prioritizing the breastfeeding “journey” over the baby’s health. when they started talking about julia’s sickly brother and it sank in exactly what kind of person she is…

calling OP a monster for being concerned about her niece is so bizarre 😭 “mother knows best” is invalid when she’s constantly visiting doctors asking for other opinions implying even julia thinks she needs to know more

I dont understand why using formula is considered a failure. It’s good for the baby as well is it not? They’re not doing any harm

“You let Amanda down” how? They advocated, got shut out and as much as they knew Amanda was under WEEKLY medical supervision

Some mothers act like their newborn baby is their property and not a new human life. Just because you’re the baby’s mother doesn’t mean that you know best

breastfeeding is best yes thats true, however as someone who was unable to produce milk, formula is a necessity

I hate that people are blaming OP and her mom for not paying attention, but this isn't their baby??? How are they supposed to know every little thing Julia is doing wrong, especially since Amanda was starting to grow?

I hate the concept of "mother knows best" yeah bro in the kids mannerisms and traits maybe not if the child is needing medical intervention

me listening to the backstpry of her torturing her brother. She transferred all that evil to the baby because the child also couldn't defend themselves like her little brother

I felt physically sick when OP mentioned the brother and how he was always sick and had broken bones and how Julia was upset and angry when Sven left

Two months in and I felt like a failure, sitting on my kitchen floor, holding my baby and crying bc I couldn’t feed her. I made the hard decision to run to Walmart in the middle of night for formula. Feeing like a failure hurts but seeing your baby starve hurts worse.

I feel like OP should go back to those subreddits from her first post and show them this since they were telling her that “mother knows best”

Fun fact about munchausen by proxy is there is a “stunning lack of affect in the mothers.” They have a “cold detachment as if they could be lying to the vet about their supposedly sick goldfish or to customer service about their supposedly broken toaster, if doing so could bring the same psychological benefits.” Quotes are from a book called Behave

This drives me nuts. The amount of pressure mom's face to breast feed is incredible. My wife had a hard time producing enough milk to satisfy our littles appetite, and had to supplement with formula. The problem was supplementing with formula made her feel guilty. The pressure was unfair and the resulting guilt was worse.

I’m glad the child’s condition was found out. That’s child by proxy stuff can be really intense from my understanding.
