I’ve always saved 5% and got the 5% match in my 401k since I started the Post Office but it was never invested in stock, I didn’t know. In 2018, I put everything in a 2030 target date fund, which was about 60/40 invested. In 2020, the stock market bottomed out in March/April at the start of the Pandemic. I kept adjusting my account on the way up with my own mix, I was 90% invested by December and gained quite a bit that year. I learned what to do by listening to MSNBC all day in 2018-2020 while I worked. It was boring at first but I learned everything I know from watching it, watching how the stock market moved in realtime and listening to how the big investment companies operated. I also googled a lot of questions. I retired comfortably in February, never have to work again. Money is still growing and I’ve created generational wealth for my daughter. My house has been paid off since 2018. I did share what I learned with coworkers on the way up, some listened, others… 🤷♂️
