I was changing the central line dressing on a 19 year old who had been declared brain dead, but mom refused to give up. I was dancing and singing *badly* to Body by Megan Thee Stallion when he threw his head back and started laughing. Of course, no one believed me, but he did ween from the vent, was decannulated, learned to eat and walk again.

We had a trach/vent patient on my step down whos father was downstairs in ICU, and it looked like he was going to pass very soon. When we took the son downstairs to say goodbye to his dad, the two of them were giving each other the finger, throwing punches in the air at each other, and mouthing “F you” to each other. Craziest part is the next day the son asked us to bring him down again and he just did the same thing again 😂

morgue slab was missing and I was expected to put a deceased infant on the cold metal floor. when I declined the dr put an empty uhaul box in it. thankfully i instructed another nurse to get a matress pad. at least put the babe on something meant for a human and not a cardboard box.

Not my story, but at a hospital I worked at- Had a patient elopement, they wanderguard alarmed in their room but patient wasn’t there. So they were tracking the wanderguard trying to figure out where he was. He was getting to different levels of the hospital without using the elevator and no one could find him. Turns out he flushed the wanderguard band and they were tracking it through the pipes 😂

Didn’t happen to me BUT, it was the talk of the hospital. Patient was restrained and somehow got a hold of her purse which she wasn’t supposed to have in the beginning. She couldn’t get out of the restraints so she somehow rummaged through her purse and found her lighter and tried to burn the restraints off and inadvertently set herself on fire

I had a detoxing patient wanting meds. Did the whole scanning, explaining meds, etc. handed him meds. Before I could even react, he took a swig from his URINAL to swallow meds. I was mortified. He was unaffected. Now all urinals are emptied prior to med pass

I was charge in L&D in 2012. Our chief of anesthesia was in OB that day. Didn’t show up to an emergency c/s, I found him unconscious in his call room, with a syringe still hanging out of his ankle. Still had PROPOFOL in it. He as coded and taken to the ER. Lived. Fired. License taken. It’s all public knowledge. He just got his license restated.

Not the craziest thing but when I was 28 weeks pregnant, I used to work on an intermediate care unit called IMU & I had a patient go into PEA. The charge nurse and I were the first ones to arrive to the patient’s room. I started CPR and after a couple rounds they relieved me because someone finally noticed the huge belly I had and asked if I was pregnant. Someone answered for me and said no I don’t think so. I’m like yessss wtf I am! I had to go home shortly after because I went into preterm labor and had to be out the remainder of my pregnancy 😳…

Working nightshift, a greyhound bus dropped a patient off at our ED for “unspecified illness” she was having mental status changes and had needed to be held overnight until transport to appropriate psych care (apparently nothing physically wrong but not well enough to DC and needed to wait until AM for psych transport) the only open bed was med/surg so they put her there. Nurses/techs were slammed with already high census and I guess put a clip on bed alarm on her- she unclipped and covered body in hand sanitizer and lit herself on fire. On the oncology floor below my post-op whipple patient hit the call light to tell us the fire sprinklers had just turned on in her room which is how when ended up evacuating 3 floors of our hospital that night with the fire department . Hospital admin showed up in sweatpants at 2am!
