because we already knew of the bridge being the upside and the abyss from the first shadow, vol1 and season 4 it was nothing new really. but the thing is they handled the characters so so poorly. they added too many characters that they can't focus on the og party, mike got reduced from a leader and the heart of the group to basically a cardboard cutout, eleven doesn't have emotions anymore, no one cares that max is back except Lucas and Will and they gave Will powers only to sideline him the entire volume. the writing IS BAD compared to the previous seasons when they have to come out in an article to clarify shit that happens in the show then it is just bad. vol1 was executed perfectly while vol2 just felt like a big mess that's why everyone is so upset because it's literally the final season and we haven't gotten anything but regression both plot and character wise I could go on and on about this bc the list is just that long.

Yesss!!! The show was so great!! And so fun! And so many happy things! My kids did NOT get the coming out scene. And I love this for them. But I had to explain what a BIG FUCKING DEAL it was at the time. Bless em. They just don’t know. Thank goodness!!!! 😅

Queer Xennial here - I loved them too, but I also totally get the critiques… and I don’t think it’s a generational thing. The timing of the “coming out” scene, given that the world is ending doesn’t make much sense. Neither does the fact that Karen Wheeler somehow got an oxygen tank into the basement with a broken clavicle. Neither does Eleven’s lip filler or Will’s acting, frankly. But it doesn’t mean that the costuming and fight choreo and commitment to recreating an accurate depiction of growing up in the 80’s wasn’t very well done. We can hold conflicting sentiments at once and I think your reasoning is a tad short sighted and frankly, (to quote Gen Z) cheugy.
