Your ears are never dirty. Wax has a function & your ears self “clean”. You only have to have wax/skin removed if you have issues. Otherwise, your ears take care of them selves.

I wonder if the comment about ear cleanliness might be affected by your earwax type? I’ve read that people of East Asian descent tend to have lighter, flakier earwax while people of European descent tend to have darker, stickier wax. Earwax is not inherently dirty, though I see how darker wax could be jarring if the person is more accustomed to the first type.

From what I understand, family members will clean each others ears so it’s not abnormal there. In the West, it falls to the individual after a certain age and of course doctors recommend not putting anything in your ears, main reason how delicate ear drums and ear canals can be and the risk of infection is greater than having dirty ears (I use qtips but at my own risk).
