okay, first off, youre confusing tip pooling with tip outs. pooling tips is when all servers take all their tips together and split that between each other so everyone makes the same thing. tipping out support staff is pretty customary in restaurants. its INSANELY hard to take care of 7+ tables all by yourself. taking/making drink orders, answering questions, taking orders, putting orders in, running food, grabbing extra ranch, wiping down tables, its insane, I've done it. you tip out the support staff to help with running food and cleaning so you can focus on mainly guest service

We went off topic with the tipping out everyone. What she’s asking is should Togo orders get tipped and my answer to that it’s up to you. I serve bartend run my own food take Togo orders and do pull tabs. Taking a Togo order and pulls me away from a table. Or stops me from taking a table and allows another server to get it. But I can always make it up if we are busy enough. Same as a non tipping table I can make it up at another table. Never feel forced to tip. As a server we know pros and cons to the job and we except them there are good and bad days and good and bad tippers. You roll with the punches

pooled tips is different than tipping out the runner, busser and bartender. it's only supposed to be a small percentage but if people don't tip then the waiter ends up actually paying to work instead of being paid to work

yes, yes and yes. In texas, servers Bartenders and bussers almost always make $2.13 an hour plus tips

I’m not broke but 10,12,15% was the standard for like over 20 years and even if my order was 12$ I would tip 2-3$ not $1.20 but if I pay 100$ for my meal I’m not tipping almost half of my meals cost as a tip that doesn’t math anywhere

Worked at a place where servers had to tip out the hosts, the hosts were typically 16-19 yr olds who were making $12 an hour, the servers were making $2.53 an hour. Made no sense

I did to go before I started serving, and then I moved up to bartending. I agree with her that to go orders should be getting like 5-10%. Now as for tipping out support staff, absolutely bussers, bartenders, and food runners absolutely should be tipped out. They make my job just a bit easier. I worked in a place where I was all the above, I was the host, the server, the bartender, and the food runner on weekdays. It was rough. Even if it was only 5-10 tables at that specific time, not including the bar guest or 2 and the phone ringing for Togo. So I will always support tipping my support staff.

I used to weight tables all throughout my high school days. Whatever tips I made I did not have to give to the kitchen staff. I did not have to give to the bus boy. Those were all my tips. There was no pulling of them. None of having to pay stuff back it was I earned those I keep those why can’t we just now pay a livable wage and get rid of tipping I mean I’m already shelling out $25 for a plate of Alfredo from Olive Garden. That’s not worth $25.

So we have to start paying McDonald’s, Burger King, etc tips too? They do the same thing for to go orders as restaurants. Companies need to pay for their employees not us.

i don't see comment about using Robot. Just went to japan and increasing number of restaurant. you start scan a QR code. order on the app and food is deliver by robot and u pay CC via the app

The cooks don’t usually get tips. But bussers, and bar do because they help that server with there tables. I’m a hostess and I get tip outs because I help take people to the tables and I also buss those tables. You wouldn’t have that table without me. That server wouldn’t be making money if I didn’t seat them. So I get tip money

okay, talking about the to-go orders. I run a store. I received the freight at inventory. the freight I put out the freight Price everything. I set the shelves. I build the end caps. I build the displays. make the schedules. make sure everybody clocks in and out. hire the people. take the cash. make sure the tills balance all of this stuff etc. but you're normal everyday. retail worker doesn't get a tip. but to go orders because they answered a phone. put your food in a box and cashed you out that deserves a tip that doesn't make sense

First off 20% is a NEW standard!!! Tipping used to be 10 to maybe 12% if the service was really great. I was never taught to tip on pickup or carryout. The workers doing that work are paid differently than a server or bartender. And yes this new standard has been around for a while. Keep in mind we're talking about a percentage and the inflation on food/eating out has also gone up tremendously, so the fact we're doubling a percentage on top of already increased pricing. TIPPING HAS GOTTEN OUT OF HAND.

This might not be a popular take, but if a waitress is getting paid 3$ an hour, and everyone else at least 10$ an hour, my tip is FOR THE WAITRESS. Tf do you mean? 😂 They get treated like shit by customers, over whelmed from the environment, taking the blame over half the time, and still getting paid the least amount to survive off of tips and even then a lot of people don’t even wanna tip anymore.
