Like you I’ve got biracial children and have been with my black husband. Until recently I too thought as you did. I’m shocked by how ignorant I am regarding the inherent racism that exists within me. Not from hate but ignorance. I need to do better for my children and the children world.

Yes, 💯ignorance. I Puerto Ricans and married a Black man, my children are biracial.believe me it was devastating when people actually question my husband if the baby was his because the were light skin and straight hair when they was born. Eventually their skin got darker and hair curl up. Imagine ihow my husband felt. Instead of congratulating him for his newborn. When you walk to restaurants and everyone look at us. Yes I’m married for 49 years . Now is not as bad but when we started dating. Boy did people gave us a look of discussion. I came across a lady stop us and asked us if there was an eye doctor in the city. We need to go. That’s was hate racism she was Hispanic too.🤦🏻‍♀️

I was working temporarily at an upmarket office. As I entered my office I was greeted with: have you brought our coffee? I was dressed in office gear and I was running the department but this woman didn’t know that.
