To every Muslim woman who feels like she's falling behind in life, I want you to ask yourself one question. Behind compared to who? Who decided that you should be married by a certain age? That you should have children by a certain point? That your life should look a particular way for you to be considered successful? I think so many women are putting themselves under enormous pressure because their lives haven't turned out the way they imagined. You see other women getting married. Having children. Buying homes. Reaching milestones you thought you'd have reached by now. And slowly, you start feeling as though something has gone wrong with your life. But look at some of the greatest women in Islamic history. Maryam عليها السلام was never married. Aisha رضي الله عنها never had children. Asiya عليها السلام was married to Fir'awn. Khadijah رضي الله عنها had experienced marriage and motherhood before marrying the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. And Fatimah رضي الله عنها experienced financial hardship. Their circumstances were completely different, yet every one of them was honoured by Allah. Their worth wasn't determined by whether they were married, had children or lived a comfortable life. And neither is yours. Maybe you're still waiting for marriage. Maybe you've been making du'a for children. Maybe you're struggling financially whilst everyone around you seems to be moving forward. None of that means you've failed. You can continue working towards the things you want, making du'a and trusting Allah without constantly comparing your life to somebody else's. Because the life you imagined for yourself was never guaranteed to be the life Allah had written for you. Don't spend so much time mourning the life you thought you'd have that you forget to appreciate the one Allah has given you. You're not behind simply because your story looks different. And your life doesn't need to follow somebody else's timeline to have meaning.
