My grandparents have been married over 70 years & to this day if you ask how they have stayed in love they say how important it is that they are best friends 1st & husband & wife 2nd bc liking each other is vital for them to continue to remember to come together bc they WANT & NEED each other’s companionship, rather than that they are married & obligated to NEED & HAVE to love & honor each other… & TBH when I met my husband I finally understood what they mean… I crave my husband companionship as my best friend & I want to invest in us bc he is so important to my happiness. We have been married over 13yrs, together over 16yrs, & you have no clue how giddy I still get when I say I still like him & when he says he still likes me too bc love is such a fragile thing & while many ppl think they can keep love going w obligations & control, the reality is, those are only capable of so much, leaving love incredibly vulnerable bc obligation & control are WORK - & work gets exhausting FAST, but when love is protected by mutual respect & integrity, you will find it becomes muscle memory, a routine, leaving you capable of focusing your energy on whatever else needs to be done. 100% Choose “like”.
