I’m curious about how it works where she is. Not questioning her guilt just the due process. If she’s arrested and requests a lawyer, she doesn’t get one for police questioning? She gets processed instead and put in jail and THEN she gets to request a lawyer? In Canada, full processing (e.g., booking, fingerprinting, or photographing) should generally wait until AFTER you’ve consulted counsel, as these can be deferred without urgency. Police can transport you to a station or detention facility for custody, as this is often necessary for secure processing and does not inherently violate the right if access to counsel is provided promptly upon arrival or en route if feasible (e.g., via phone). So, this process I’m seeing here wouldn’t occur in the WAY it’s going down.
