The liquid ones are the next best option if you are not cooking the herbs. Previously those comes with little amount of alcohol which the TCM practitioner will recommend adding with a bit of hot water to it. I just took it neat which was great tasting actually. I don’t like powder and pills formed, they have to be dried in a way, grind into powder or encapsulated with machine.

Liquid is the best but now hard to find tcm shops using it. Guess it takes up too much space and short shelf life.
