Italy's relations with Germany remained friendly, while for some reason, Italy and Austria-Hungary were frenemies, although they were allies by the treaty as they did not overcome their conflict of interests. As ww1 began, Italy declared to be neutral as Austria-Hungary was the aggressor, but it was until the allied powers (UK, France ans Russia) offered Italy a treaty which they promise territories from Austria-Hungary, etc, and as a result; Italy entered WW1 at the side of the entente powers and declared war on Austria-Hungary on may 1915. The Austro-Hungarian Empire collapsed in 1918, so did Germany's monarchy abolished, and the Central powers lost the war.
