@jb.bank.filipino: IMPORTANT UPDATE FOR FOREIGN WORKERS IN KOREA – 2026 The Korean government has announced a major expansion of foreign seasonal worker opportunities in 2026 to address labor shortages in farming and fishing communities. A total of 109,100 foreign seasonal workers will be accepted next year. This is a 14.1% increase compared to 2025, making it one of the largest intakes in recent years. Most jobs are in agriculture and fishery, including farming, harvesting, greenhouse work, fish farms, and coastal village support. These are short-term or seasonal jobs, and workers enter Korea with a legal seasonal work visa. To better protect workers, the government is expanding the Public Seasonal Worker Program. Under this system, public institutions or cooperatives hire workers directly, not individual farmers. This helps ensure safer working conditions, proper wage payment, and reduced risk of unfair treatment. In 2025, the program showed strong results. More than 80,000 workers entered Korea, with an operation rate of about 84%. The illegal overstay rate was only 0.5%, showing that most workers follow the rules and work responsibly. Job demand is especially high in rural regions such as Jeollanam-do, Jeollabuk-do, Gyeongsangbuk-do, and Chungcheongnam-do.
