@franklinthewoman: The Great Buddha’s annual cleaning (Ominugui) Every year on the morning of August 7th, 120 monks and volunteers clean the Daibutsu. They first purify themselves at the temple bathhouse, then put on white ritual clothing and chant a sutra to remove the Buddha’s spirit before cleaning.
