We used billy bookcases with some doors and some left open from ikea. We looooovvvveeee how it looks. Then target has clear bins that fit right inside. Skip the fabric cube bins. They broke in days for us

utilize the blank vertical wall space! the kallax system is great but i love that the trofast also has smaller wall systems you can hang to help get things off the floor

My biggest recommendation is to rotate out toys. I keep anywhere between 5 to 7 toys out at a time! It has made life so much easier! And my daughter plays so much more intentionally now. We also have the Cameron cubby system (fb mkpl find) and that is a huge help!

Honestly I got Amazon rattan cabinets that close and I just open them up when my daughter is awake and close them up when she’s asleep!

I personally think the troll fast is the best for kid to grow into. I have two 5 1/2-year-olds and we love our system and it’s recently been converted to smaller pieces like Legos and little figurines so it’s definitely more of a long-term investment we had the Catholics as well. I just found that our collection wasn’t that deep aside from like magnet tile tiles in building blocks and things. I also utilize a storage ottoman for our hot wheels tracks. They’re so big and bulky a storage ottoman is beautiful, but also pretty big. We found a wicker one at HomeGoods for pretty cheap & I actually see them at thrift stores a lot too! I love that you’re using your train stable as play table. We do the same exact thing we put ours out of the wall, so it’s almost like a peninsula. That way our children can freely move around it a little bit easier they’ll build like hotels and things. I also can sit on one side with them and “play”. If I’m being completely honest with all the big toys it’s hard for it to look not play room-y. BUT he can line them up next to the storage unit or even on top (I would personally glue some Lego mats on the unit and donate the table & grab some white chairs to match the ikea unit. I love the idea of having a bench for that unit too! I think I would maybe do that vs the train table and Lego table as he will grow into them easier. If you build a desk I’d leave enough space for 2-3 little kids to play at in case you expand your family, have friends over & also some taller floor storage! Another completely different idea is some closed storage on the left and right of your tv! You can put toys low enough for him to play with and “rotate” them to help keep it more manageable for cleanup, etc. very practical for when he’s older too! Let me find some inspiration!
