On this day, Balochistan did not simply lose a political leader; it lost a tribal elder, a guardian of his people, and a man who stood firmly by his principles until his final days. Despite his age and the power and wealth he possessed, Nawab Akbar Khan Bugti remained deeply connected to his people and continued to speak for their rights. During his time, the people of Dera Bugti and surrounding areas lived under a strong tribal system where their honour, dignity, roads, security and livelihoods were protected. There was little room for theft, robbery or injustice in his territory. When major oil and gas companies entered the region, he also raised his voice to demand that the local people receive their rightful share and rights. Education was limited in the tribal society of that era, yet many of the schools and colleges that still exist in Dera Bugti today were established during his time. Even those institutions, despite their current condition, stand as reminders of what once existed. His departure left not only his own people without a powerful guardian, but also left behind a lesson for the world: no matter how old, weak or isolated a person may become, standing firm for one’s principles matters.
