Reminds me of when my friend tried to force her girls to give me a hug bc I bought them a doll each. Instantly saw they didnt want to so I asked for a high five and they each gave me 3 very grateful high fives😂

No child should ever feel pressured! I grew up with relatives forcing their hugs on me....I will not do that with my granddaughter! They will hug when they want to.

I don’t make my kids give hugs, I hate hugging myself, why would I make my kids give them. My parents are the same way they never made us growing up and they don’t push the kids to do it either. If you want to give me loves I love it, if not I get it.

The hugging thing oh my god. I don’t have kids but I remember being so happy that my mom stood up for me and didn’t force me to hug people who were basically strangers to me. Now I always ask kids if they wanna shake hands when saying hello/goodbye and if not, we just wave at each other

When my youngest nephew was 4-5 years old he went about a year not hugging me because I wanted to show him I would never force him to hug me. I could tell he was saying no as a way to test but I wanted him to learn that his no mattered to me. All I cared about was him acknowledging me at some point be it a hug, hello, wave, etc. after his testing period I became one of the first family members to be hugged and he also learned that when I had days that I wasn’t feeling like being touched it wasn’t personal just that I needed some space. He’s sixteen now and has gotten to a point where he’s sticking to his boundaries with other family members and I am so proud of him
