This video went live in September 2019. At the time, it was just me being curious. Unboxing a carbon fiber guitar (yes, spelled the American way, even though every instinct in me wants to write fibre), pressing buttons, laughing when it got loud, and trying to work out whether something that looked futuristic could still feel musical. I wasn’t chasing a moment. I wasn’t thinking about numbers. I definitely wasn’t thinking this would be the video that crossed a million views, let alone 5.4 million. What I was doing, without realising it, was trusting curiosity over certainty. Letting myself be sceptical on camera. Letting myself change my mind in real time. Letting the process be visible rather than polished. Looking back, that’s probably why it travelled. Not because it was carbon fibre or fiber. Not because it was clever. But because it was honest. This was the first video on this channel to pass one million views. And in hindsight, it quietly set the tone for everything that followed. Curiosity first, gear second. Music over novelty. Saying “I don’t know yet” instead of pretending to. It’s strange to watch this now and realise how much of my creative DNA was already there. Before the audience. Before the pressure. Before the expectations. Proof, I suppose, that sometimes the videos that change everything don’t feel important when you’re making them. They just feel interesting. - @maryspender
