I’m autistic too. I struggle with 9-5 jobs and always feel like everyone is out to get me. 😞 I wish I could find self-employment but I also struggle with putting myself out there on social media, so advertising is difficult if not seemingly impossible for me. I wish I could have the help I need, bc I know I can be happy af if I could just sustain self-employment.

I have worked for others for years and it lead me into such a deep depression… the system, the rushed crazy unpredictable routine but it was also what made me become self employed. I struggle so hard. I didn’t know what day I was in or how much time has passed. 2 months felt like 2 days. I couldn’t cook meals or even to remember to eat because I was so hyper focused all the time working on my business in my special interest (lost 12kg in a year). Going outside or socializing was painful. Meltdowns… Shutdowns I couldn’t name at the time. Just until all started to fall apart specially due to executive dysfunction. I couldn’t open my email. I couldn’t even get up. Only later I realize I was in an autistic burnout and I got diagnosed with AuDHD. After 2 years of recovering at home I was so hopeful that working for others would make me at least help me to gain weight again and have structure… Now I just feel it’s impossible! I get so burned out. It has been 4 months and it feels like I have to choose either to go to work or take care of myself (basic needs, literally). Or have home errands done. At the same time, so afraid to try again self employment but it’s the only way that feels right

Do you just post on social media? Or what exactly do you do?

after having four different 9-5 jobs in six years, self employment is the only viable career path for me. I work about 4 hours a day for 4 days a week and it is incredible for my well-being. I also create the best work I've ever made and never get burnt out!

This is waaaaay to relatable as a late diagnosed autistic. I only started video editing at the age of 35 I wish I would have been able to explore these things more when I was younger like when I was 18 but there is no help for people like me out there where I live because I get told “we are sorry you function to high” but that in no way ment I was okay. So it’s been a struggle but it’s what I do now

That’s so cool! I was late-diagnosed this year and am a video editor/video specialist in corporate right now. I just went on medical leave to restart my life and build my own career and was so scared but this video just popped up and you have no idea how helpful it is to hear someone share their experience in a similar position. Thank you!

I was in the building construction self employed when I left school, then employed by various companies after that. I was more regulated self employed
