@dbozz0: The Sun at the Center of the Solar System The Sun doesn’t orbit the Earth — instead, the Earth and the other planets orbit the Sun because the Sun has enormous gravity and contains about 99.8% of all the mass in the Solar System. Planets follow elliptical (oval-shaped) orbits, not perfect circles. They are always “falling” toward the Sun, but their sideways motion keeps them moving around it instead of crashing into it. ⚖️ The Solar System’s “Balance Point” (Barycenter) Technically, the Sun and planets all orbit a common balance point called the barycenter. Because the Sun is so massive, this point is usually inside the Sun, but not exactly at its center — so the Sun wobbles slightly as the planets tug on it (Jupiter causes the biggest wobble). 🌌 The Sun’s Bigger Journey — Orbiting the Milky Way The Sun is also moving through space. It orbits the center of our galaxy, the Milky Way. Speed: about 220 km/second One full orbit takes about 225–250 million years This long journey is called a galactic year So while the Earth orbits the Sun, the Sun is also traveling through the galaxy — and the whole Solar System moves with it.#nature #solarsystem #universe #Science #astrology
