You can buy cheap skates so you still have your own the hire skates at a planet ice are dreadful! I figure skated for years and my husband is the equipment manager for the professional team in Coventry! Good luck! ⛸️

Absolutely get your own skates the hire skates are so hit and miss and when learning you want to be able to trust the Skates you’re using it’ll help you progress easier 🥰

if you want to get like a little bit more experience when you’re not on the rink get some roller blades theyre so similar, and the tricks kinda work out the same! but good luck on your new adventure!!x

Jackson Artiste is a great beginner skate if you want to get your own (rentals suck, especially if they have the plastic figure/hockey hybrid things). The rink should have (or know of) someone who can measure your feet and tell you what size to get.

My biggest piece of advice as someone who's also recently started learning- don't be scared to fall! Genuinely, it'll hurt a little the first few times but you need to just let yourself relax and fall if needs be to be able to experiment, to actually achieve the skills. I think that's definitely my biggest hurdle right now as I can skate pretty confidently but I haven't got anywhere with learning and skills because of fear of falling so I generally just stop myself 😂. If it helps, a lot of people wear knee and bum padding so it doesnt hurt as much 😂
