@chandlerroth55: DECEMBER SERIES PT 29: performance improvement plans “PIP”s are a gateway to termination. More often than not, an employee on a PIP will not survive and the company is busy papering the file for the termination. Have you ever been on a PIP and had it go differently? #lawyer

I was put on a pip in October that I in writing contested while still completing said vague goals, despite asking for clarification this was at the end of two years, struggling with no formal training the following April my boss was fired for cause and I switched to a different team and about six months later I was terminated by the new manager because I was not meeting his expectations regarding after hours communication

PIPs should be interpreted as a courtesy note informing you it’s time to look for a new job.

with my company we give you 30 days but the pip documents are VERY detailed. like 4 pages long. say foe instance I normally would score 2 calls a week, that increases to about 6 calls a week. we have to spend at least an extra hour a week with them. so side by side calls to provide coaching in the moment. have then sit with a tenured rep and do call listening. then I would go to a conference room and pull up calls and play them on the screen. we'd go thru the call and I'd ask them to tell me what they could have done differently and then we walk thru what tool they could have accessed to give right information. then I play a call of a tenured rep so they can see what the rep pulled up to properly counsel. so while its only 30 days, our managers are heavily involved. and thats why I switched to client management. being a people manager is not for the week but my teams loved me bec they knew I was going to back them up and try my hardest to help them

I knew exactly what it was. Was never given coaching time to review or improve, that time was always used to pick on me. Manager was caught literally hiding behind walls & corners spying on me to only find me working. Shit got really weird

I was on a pip last year in April. They switched my roll slightly and I’m thriving a year and half later. Hopefully getting a raise after my performance review.

Every PIP I have ever put in place have been successful, PIPs create uninterrupted time for further training, feedback, and reflection. It’s either the right push in the right direction or seems impossible to those who push their work on the hard workers, who don’t get paid as they should in corporate America.

I've never been on a PIP, but during my 7 years in management I placed three employees on PIPs--one was ultimately terminated, one quit, and the third improved his performance and was subsequently promoted.

I got a PIP and I pushed back. I didn't sign it, instead I wrote a 6 page long counter to the PIP, writing why it was unrealistic, outside of my scope of duties, or not well defined enough for me to know what I was trying to achieve (like one of their points was "I needed to learn more about the company" but that was all they offered in way of explanation). I got fired from that job for "being too combative" because I pushed back. I'm still mad about it

The PIPs I’ve seen be successful in my corporate experience comes down to intent. In the initial conversation, if HR is TELLING you as the manager to put an employee on a PIP… game over. If a manager suggests a PIP.. it could be a structured option for improvement because it can help BOTH the employee and manager. Not always. But it can

HR Director here: DONT SIGN IMMEDIATELY!! if you get PIP’d, ask for written clarification and achievable milestones to be included as performance indicators. This way they can’t use vague concepts to fire you. Also, if you can find one that applies, ask for a reasonable accomodation to support your ability to be successful through the terms of the PIP. And then follow all the rest of this advice 😏❤️

I was on a PIP and was getting excellent feedback...until my manager wanted to hire a friend in my position. I was there for 12 years. they were still trying to call me about how to do the job months after they let me go. not my problem.

Was on a pip at my last job. It only lasted a month. And I had to do weekly check ins with the person who put me on said pip (wasnt my manager). Every meeting was “well I havent gotten any complaints. Good job.” Nd then the meeting ended. It was only for a month. I left a couple of months later. I wanted to leave anyway but that pushed me over the edge.

I received a PIP a day after I came back from STD. They also told me I can’t have the copy. On the PIP, it said I have to make ZERO mistakes. I was like….. 😟

Why do they always insist that the PIP is a great thing and they’re gonna help you get up to speed? Like just be honest with me

My union bargained for language explicitly detailing what the manager/principal/admin would be doing to support a teacher on an improvement plan..It made it so goals HAD to be clear and achievable since the new contract required specific coaching and improvement measures..
