Cape Town is one of the most beautiful cities I’ve been to, but as a Black person, being in a city where there is such a glaringly obvious racial and class divide was uncomfortable. It doesn’t feel like the motherland. It feels like the Antebellum south.

Correct. As a South African, Johannesburg is my favourite city in Africa. Cape Town is uncomfortable. If you ever make it next time, add Durban. Durban is the most popular domestic tourist destination for South Africans. They visit Durban more than any other local city.

Joburg was amazing because I felt like I was in the motherland, Cape Town felt too much like Europe (colonial architecture and 🤚🏻 in abundance) but the natural beauty was unmatched.

I’ve been to South Africa about four times all for 2 months at a time, between Cape Town and Johannesburg, CT is a lot more outdoorsy and adventurous. You should visit Durban it kinda reminds me of Florida vibes and it was my favorite city.

very balanced and sensible review. I work in Joburg and I have visited Cape town. totally agree. CT is beautiful scenewise but it felt ..dull. But Joburg offers a Multicultural arty, and vibrant social life as long as you are careful where you go and be alert. there is music, history, art, and business. As a Durban born and raised...PLEASE visit my home city next time. its definitely the most laid back and friendliest city.

The best choice is to do both. Joburg - stay in Sandton and experience the history / then go to Cape and enjoy the beach life
