Also please do not get offended by the security guards and the staffs when they ask you few questions regarding the seating, they’re obligated to check if the right person is in the seat as there was a horrible murder cases happened once in the Shinkansen in the past. It’s not because of your race or ethnicity but because they make a random choice out of everyone present.

Spot the English Bulldog :
She has an electric device showing the seating arrangement in the reserved section. If u were in the wrong seat she’d let u know.if in non reserved it’s a free for all.

Took the wrong Shinkansen (a 3 minute earlier ride) and couldn’t get our reserved seats. Sat in the little crossing area and the guards never said a word. Like they understood our pain lol

Flying domestically in japan is soooo cheap and convenient, you should try it. The shin trips are weirdly expensive.

it's because it's all reserved seating, they know what seats should be filled. Some AMTRAK trains are like this as well.
