We found out TODAY that not only can you not buy a home if you are poor, but you can’t buy one if you’ve ever been poor! 😀 we were denied a loan because my partner missed two payments for his college loans last February. We asked if we could pay the remaining outright to just clear that debt (it was a low loan) and they said no, because the issue is he missed payments at all within a certain timeframe.

it sounded good on paper bc in the 80's you could (kinda) afford it. my dad has no degree, he was a night supervisor at a grocery store for 16 years. he had 2 cars, a motorcycle, and bought 2 houses on that salary. i make the same now and lol

Right before my bf bought our house, he payed off his car loan. The car he’d had since 2017, his first and biggest loan ever, since he went to free community college. He had to FIGHT to get the lenders who had already agreed to a certain amount for the home loan to not decrease it because of how hard that hit his credit score. Luckily we were locked in and they couldn’t change it but they TRIED. 😭

Not even how credit scores work. “Can’t rent again” you don’t even need a credit score to rent first of all you usually have to put down a larger deposit but credit isn’t required. Not only that many people destroy their credit and file bankruptcy and within a year their scores are back up again.

There has only been one generation of the credit score system(1989). This was definitely a way for the rich to keep more people from climbing the economic ladder. We got rid of segregation and allowed women to be independent but now with credit scores we can claim fairness while still oppressing people that have fewer economic and familiar resources. With Regan the boomers pulled the economic ladder up while giving all the poor kids a boot in the face.
