You need a SWEET onion & cut 2/3 down with an apple slicer so the flavor is throughout. For flavor - butter & Better than bolion, chicken flavor. Also we always BBQ/grilled our foil ball on high heat turning regularly till it got soft.

No, because I did the same thing my very first onion boil tasted amazing honestly phenomenal second one. I tried disgusting and it was all because I used the wrong onion.
