Unbelievable! Here in Canada I only have to see my primary once a year. I get 12 month refills on my oxy. As for vacation they will double my scrip to fulfill my time. I’ve been given a 3 month supply at once to accommodate my trips.

Or how about being called in for a pill count when you’re out of the state and can’t come in. Then they count that as a strike against you because you did not comply.

It’s usually not the providers that hold up refills in these circumstances. It’s the pharmacies that have implemented such strict protocols that pharmacists are fearful of losing their job and/or license that they refuse to fill it. It’s also not limited to opioids, it’s some seizure medications as well 🥺

So many pain management doctors in their contracts that you sign, specifically write in there that meds won't be filled early bc of vacation or travel.

Not to mention when they DO finally process on day 30, it gets rejected due to your 6mo/yearly pre auth being up causing even more of a delay. Always seems to happen on a Friday afternoon too when no one in the office has the time to respond before the weekend. Drives me absolutely I N S A N E.

We really need more doctors like you sir! I hate that I watch my mom in pain but has had such a hard time that she won't even go to the doctors now.

This doesnt just happen in pain management arenas either. As a diabetic I have experienced this for my oral and injectable meds & jumped through hoops to have a friend or family member get them & overnight ship them when I worked out of town for long periods of time.

We need more providers like you. It took me too many years to find my current pain management provider because of the stigma against pain medication. No one wanted to help treat my pain

Omg this. Literally count my husband’s pills to decide when to plan a trip and don’t forget the doctor takes at least a week to even send the prescription to the pharmacy. I ask for blood pressure meds they refill next day. Pain meds two weeks and 4 phone calls to get anything. Cut pills in half for a few vacation days or only take on flight days. It’s insane.

I run out of meds almost every month, because not only can not refill it, but the won't even order it. So I can call 2 days ahead to have them order it but it takes 2 days to get there. if it falls on a Friday they can't order it until Monday. both on Thanksgiving and Christmas they had to order it and I did not get it until Tuesday after!
