Washington, D.C., USA — Republican Rep. Randy Fine of Florida says Democrats will need President Donald Trump's cooperation if they want to pass legislation after winning control of both chambers of Congress in the midterm elections. Speaking on Newsmax's "National Report," Fine predicted divisions between moderate and progressive Democrats over the party's direction. "I think they're going to have a civil war," Fine said. He argued that Democrats representing Republican-leaning districts may favor moderate policies to protect their seats, while lawmakers from safely Democratic districts could push more progressive proposals. "You've got folks who won in Republican seats who are probably going to say, 'Hey, let's not get too crazy if we want to win reelection,'" Fine said. Fine also discussed Sen. Bernie Sanders' suggestion that Trump might be more receptive to progressive policies than expected. "Trump is a funny guy," Sanders said. "I don't think he's all that ideological. I think he's a politician. And I'm not so sure that he will react all that negatively to a progressive agenda. Believe it or not." Fine argued that Democrats cannot easily pass major legislation without presidential support because they lack a veto-proof majority. "So if they want to actually pass anything, they're going to need the president's support." He warned that Democrats could spend the next two years investigating and pursuing impeachment efforts against Trump instead of focusing on legislation. "They can spend the next two years investigating and impeaching and wasting the mandate that they legitimately got, and then they'll all get thrown out in two years, or they can try to pass good policies," Fine said. Meanwhile, divisions have also emerged over the next House speaker. House Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries is seeking the position, while a Change.org petition opposing his leadership has attracted hundreds of thousands of signatures. Actor Mark Ruffalo has also encouraged people to sign it. Fine urged Republicans to use their remaining time in control of Congress to advance their priorities before Democrats take over in January. "I hope that we use the 60 days that we have left, that we're in charge to pass policies that will help the country," Fine said, "because we're not going to get a lot of that done for the next two years." The political debate now centers on whether Democrats will prioritize cooperation with Trump or focus on challenging his administration. #WashingtonDC #USA #RandyFine #Congress #japd
