my English teacher said she hated this movie, because to her it was so unrealistic. it's one of my favorite movies because she was listening to her students, and wanted to understand them and what they were going through. she became a safe space for her students

Unpopular opinion: If you’re calling this “white saviour”, you’re quite literally missing the point. This movie showed how the students were their OWN heroes. they went through hardships and violence, but managed to better themselves and learn to find their own voices, through writing. Ms. G was just a supportive and encouraging figure with resources for the students.
