Not to overthink it but I honestly feel like some of the hate kali gets mirrors the way people treated Lucas in season 1. They were both judged really early on and very harshly, both before they were given any real grace or complexity. It feels less about their actual actions and more about how certain audiences react to characters of colour who are outspoken or don’t fit into a digestible role.
