Let the British have Waterloo, its the only time in the entire Napoleonic war they were relevant in a land battle

Napoleon was broken at Leipzig, a vastly larger and more crucial battle. But the British had minimal involvement at Leipzig which is why they hyped up Waterloo. Britain's great victory in the Napoleonic Wars was preventing invasion and maintaining control of the high seas.

Waterloo was an English victory in the way WW2 was a US victory.

And besides the composition of the troops, also the impact of decisions and actions of the non British troops are often underrated in traditional (British) views on Waterloo. Like the role of the Prince of Orange and General Chasse's bayonet charge.

Are you taught in British schools that the British army won the war? In the Netherlands the general opinion is that Wellington could never have won in Waterloo without the help of the Prussians

Am I correct in saying that this was not Wellesley's peninsular army as the majority were sent back home once Napoleon abdicated? If so then that would suggest the British soldiers were not as battle hardened.

Waterloo is seen as a British victory primarily because the Duke of Wellington, a British general, commanded the Allied forces, and Britain had a crucial role in the decisive defeat of Napoleon, it was Wellingtons battle plan that defeated napoleon.

You forgot the dimension the number of Irish people that were were involved in Wellington‘s army. And by the way, I believe there was a certain amount of Irish people on Napoleon site in the battle of Waterloo.

What is your point the French army wasn’t entirely French…. 🤦‍♂️ultimately wellington was the brain behind the battle… d day was planned hand in hand with other allied commanders making the British involvement and ultimate command was comparatively less compared than what it was at Waterloo.

Living about 20 km from Waterloo, we were taught about the Dutch (including what is now Belgian) army and Prussian force under Blücher as well. I thought everyone in Europe knew this!
