Correct. Theres more to it I bet many your colleagues disliked you for outshining them too. I bet you didnt watch your relationship with your boss very attentively otherwise you could see the relationship deteriorate and take measures: a gift, a nice word, public nice word about your boss etc See its not about never outshining the master or whoever its about being able counter the effects of your success that adversely affect other peoples lives including your boss'. How does outshining anyone worsen their life? - If you continue collecting praise, local fame etc without being stopped you could take their job the board could fire her and hire you as ceo etc very simple
