The layoffs were to reset the job market so that people will accept lower pay and shot terms.

IMO they did layoffs for wage suppression.

This is what the GOP wants to do. They won't be happy until everyone is working for $2 a day, no benefits.

I am a nurse. We are also getting offered low ball offers with MORE responsibilities, longer hours and no good benefits.

to me, this feels more severe than 2008-2010. I remember a lot of people getting laid off back then, but I do *not* remember wages actually reversing.

Same happened after the 08 crash. I turned down every job offer that was less than what i made previously despite everyone around me acting like I shoukd be thankful for anything. Don't fall for it. HOLD the line.

It was the great salary reset. Anyone working with AI knew it had nothing to do with AI replacing jobs.

I started my own company instead of continuing to look. and when I can hire, I will be the original market values and will NOT match their 996 bullshit. it will be 4 day weeks and I will be a thorn in the side for the big guys

I get recruiters contacting me with: 1 year contract, fully remote, for $45K. Like get fucked. I’m not unemployed, but I have 20 years experience in coding, digital marketing, public relations and web content management.

Live through this after the 2008 crash, but in the creative sector. It wasn’t as drastic though - jobs that were previously paying 150K+ were being offered at about 110k. The difference is they were still full-time jobs with benefits and the salaries did eventually crawl back up. AI is decimating creative industries atm and I can’t see how they will recover.

It was only a matter of time. We are going through NAFTA 2.0 where jobs are just gonna keep moving off shore and they can label it as AI replacements when in reality it's offshoring.
