Great list! I feel like Talking At Night is a love story, not a romance. Romance, to me, has happy endings. Love stories don't necessarily end "happily" (w/the couple together) and also explore the heartbreak and messiness that comes along with . . . all of that, lol. That feels more like Talking At Night to me 😂

I can never tell if I am gonna enjoy a lit fic book… I read wild dark shore and LOVED IT, but I would never have picked it up based on the synopsis. It was only through reviews on here so I am saving this to come back to 🥰🥰🥰

"one who never known men" needs to be read with understanding of what the author went through as a child having to relocate due to WW2 and go back to Belgium after the war. her moves creates the feeling of otherness. and senseless of death and destruction that adults could not explain to her at the time create confusion. both things meld into otherworldly experience which the protagonist strives but fails to explain. we are however left with hope as her words find us after all
