@thinkingcanine: Did you know that bonking is a training technique, where dogs are hit with tightly rolled up towels or light plastic bats or cardboard tubes like what this looks like (white tuff tube)? The idea is for the noise to “correct” the dog without “hurting” them. The idea is to make the dog afraid so they don’t repeat the behavior. You can see here these dogs didn’t scream out in pain, but they look terrified. The little puppy goes right back to trying to play while the older dog cringes on the ground. I find this and the push for bonkers to be frankly, disgusting. The problem goes far beyond this trainer, this is an ideology being pushed as you can see in the video of another trainer explaining how to hit little puppies… this is the advice out there guys! #DogTraining #dogtrainer #balancedtrainer #balancedtraining
So theres plenty of balanced trainers that aren’t beating dogs, just sayin… this is not even what I would consider training

A correction shouldn’t make your dog quiver and anticipate a hit 🥴

Why do people think dogs can’t get hurt

They are both on leashes. There’s no reason they couldn’t have been separated. Puppies are annoying… that older dog was annoyed. It’s normal behavior. But that “correction” is not.

I fall into the balanced training category but hitting a dog is not an acceptable correction. A correction makes the dog say "oh I shouldn't do that again, let's try something else" not "I'm afraid to perform any behavior for risk of being hit or unfairly corrected".

This is happening in my local town! This girl has a BOARD AND TRAIN and multiple people are coming forward that their dogs were fearful/not eating/stressed after they got them home. So sick

But what would be the best tactic for controlling this? I have 3 small dogs one is a 10 month old beagle who constantly does this to my other dogs who actually get annoyed and sometimes lash out at the puppy. I’ve tried re directing but sometimes the dogs are so focused on I can’t stop them.

I’ve never seen anything like this before. Why would anyone do this ? I correct my dogs totally different without treats or anything like this. They still understand.
