Nana Kamanowia Obridjow II was the 20th known traditional King (KRACHIWURA) of the Kaakye Traditional Area, with his seat in Ɔpi (Krachikrom), Kete-Krachi, Ghana Presiding the over Krachi. He remains one of the most respected traditional rulers in the history of the Krachi State, remembered for his long and stable reign, his leadership during significant political transitions in Ghana, and his role as custodian of the land during a period of national development. KRACHIWURA Nana Obridjow II ascended Great Dwokuri stool(throne) in 1966, succeeding Nana Bedumgya II (1959-1966). He ruled the Kaakye Traditional Area for 34 years, until his passing in 2000, after which he was succeeded by the current Krachiwura, Nana Mprah Besemuna III. His reign coincided with some of the most important periods in Ghana’s post-independence history, spanning the administrations of Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, General Ignatius Kutu Acheampong, and Flight Lieutenant Jerry John Rawlings. Throughout these changing political eras, Nana Obridjow II remained the traditional authority and cultural custodian of the Krachi people. With a reign lasting thirty-four years, Nana Obridjow II ranks among the longest-serving rulers in the history of Kaakyeoman (the Krachi Kingdom). He is recognized as the fifth king whose reign exceeded three decades (1966–2000) – 34 years His lengthy reign provided continuity and stability for the Krachi State during a period of profound political, economic, and social change in Ghana. One of the notable aspects of Krachiwura Nana Obridjow II’s reign was his interaction with General Ignatius Kutu Acheampong, Ghana’s Head of State from 1972 to 1978. During Acheampong’s frequent visits to Kete-Krachi in the late 1960s and early 1970s, Nana Obridjow II was the reigning Krachiwura and traditional custodian of the area. It was during this period that the presidential lodge in Kete-Krachi, today used as the residence of the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), was commissioned. As the King of Kaakyeoman (the Krachi Kingdom) and traditional ruler of the land, Krachiwura Nana Obridjow II played an important role in facilitating cooperation between the traditional authority and the central government. Major state infrastructure projects and administrative activities undertaken in Kete-Krachi during that era were carried out with the recognition and support of his stool.
