Research shows that people with ADHD are 4–6× more likely to experience PMDD compared to the general population. 📊 The data: • PMDD affects ~3–8% of the general population • 25–45% of people with ADHD meet criteria for PMDD or severe premenstrual mood symptoms • 15–40% of people with PMDD also meet criteria for ADHD This overlap isn’t random. Estrogen directly affects dopamine and serotonin, which are already more sensitive in ADHD brains. When estrogen drops after ovulation, ADHD symptoms often worsen and PMDD symptoms can emerge or intensify. This is why so many people feel like: • They’re “a different person” half the month • Their ADHD meds stop working premenstrually • Their mood symptoms don’t respond to standard treatment This isn’t you being “too sensitive.” It’s not depression.
