I’m incredibly excited to share that @Change.org reached out to me following my recent video about sign language and invited me to take the next step by launching a petition advocating for basic sign language education in Georgia schools. Now, I need YOUR help! You can sign the petition at the link in my bio. Every signature helps bring us one step closer to making this conversation a reality. What started as a childhood memory of teaching myself sign language so I could communicate with a friend has grown into a conversation about inclusion, and the importance of making communication possible for everyone. The idea is simple. Every student deserves the opportunity to learn basic sign language. Imagine a generation of students who don’t just recognize that someone communicates differently, but have the tools to meet them where they are. Imagine a child walking into a classroom, playground, or community and finding someone who already knows how to say hello. That is the kind of change I want to see. As Miss Georgia Volunteer, my initiative, See It. Be It., is rooted in the belief that representation and inclusion matter. We cannot inspire the next generation to see what is possible if we aren’t willing to create opportunities for everyone to be seen, heard, and valued. I’m honored that Change.org saw the potential in this conversation and reached out to help take it beyond social media and into an opportunity for advocacy. This is bigger than a video. Bigger than a petition. It’s about making inclusion part of the way we educate & connect with one another. Georgia, let’s make some noise. Let’s make basic sign language education a conversation worth having. Communication is for everyone, and inclusion starts with us!!! 🍑🤟🏻 #SignLanguage #ASL #SeeItBeIT #MissGeorgiaVolunteer #MissVolunteerAmerica
