This is why you file custody separately in J & D court when you separate. In a lot of states you have to be separated an entire year before you can file for divorce.

Couple of years ago a woman was beaten & put in hospital. The guy took her suv & their kids (he was an ex, babies daddy) and crossed state line. Police were like 🤷♀️on both sides of the Stateline. Many people shocked and I guess there was such a huge amount of people calling cops demanding something to be done they finally decided to do something. Most likely an election year in that area.
