the reason why the crankshaft shows no damage is because bearings are softer than the crankshaft. bearing debris will embed in the crank. you should always polish the crank and check rods for out of round from heat.

Your main bearrings also went bad too, oil chanels in crank spread metal shavings to the main bearrings

the same thing happened to me like two weeks ago - I decided to just put on new bearings and it knocked again 2 days later , conclusion: fix it properly the first time. - cut the crank - had to cut mine to 0.0030 -get oversized bearings -change the Conrod in Wich the bearing was spinning for the proper crushing force.
