I fear the fact that it was from the boys was the whole point 💔

As much as it would’ve been really nice to have their perspective, I feel like the movie being in the male gaze adds so much to how even in the girls death it’s never truly abt them, but how they were viewed and seen by boys. It’s tragic.

It would be nice to see their perspective but the whole point is that no matter how sad they are and how much they suffer the boys still romanticize them and only care about their beauty.

although I do like how its open to interpretation, especially as a teenage girl myself

Besides male gaze being the whole point of the movie, I really think we don’t need their perspective coz as a girl we already understand what sisters probably must have felt.

That’s the beauty of this film. You the viewer are meant to figure out the meaning behind every scene through the blurred, misconstrued lense that is the boys telling the story

I feel an absolute disgust at the boys’ voyeuristic view of the Lisbon sisters. It is a haunting reminder of how people worship the 'idea' of a person while ignoring their actual pain. The Lisbon sisters are treated as mysteries to be solved or relics to be collected, rather than human beings who were visibly suffering.

i think the fact that it’s from the perspective of boys adds more to the story. because it is about how men don’t understand women because they never cared to do it. but it would be interesting to see it from their perspective. i don’t think the fact that it was written by a man and was from the boys’ perspective degrades its beauty or importance as a feminist work of art. i love this and i love sofia coppola. 💓
