@asianartmuseum: You’ve seen it in KPop Demon Hunters, now see it IRL. Before K-pop and the global K-wave, Korean art was already rich with symbols and storytelling. One of the most enduring is hojakdo, the pairing of the tiger and the magpie, seen here on a 500-year-old jar from our museum’s collection. In hojakdo, the tiger symbolizes protection while the magpie brings good fortune. Together, they form a visual language rooted in folklore, one that continues to shape Korean culture today. Stay tuned for a deeper look at this historic duo.
