@witnesstheland: Evidence of ancient ice across Ohio: the Brassfield limestone of the Stillwater Valley. #creatorsearchinsights #geology #ohio #glacier #landscape
Have you ever looked at West Kettering in Montgomery County. Especially the land leading up to and behind the Cox Mansion.

I live in Miami County so this is great! Also, the pileated woodpecker in the background makes me want to visit even more just to birdwatch

About 10 miles to the southwest (less than a 15 minute drive) is the Martin Marietta Phillipsburg limestone quarry. It’s part of the Brassfield limestone deposit. I had an office at that quarry back in the mid 90’s. The high wall at that time was close to 100 feet and the limestone was very close to the surface which helped save costs because there was less material to remove to expose the limestone. One of my favorite things was to watch the blasting. Each blast was relatively small, only 10,000 tons per blast (compared to 50,000 in granite quarries in Georgia). I bet if you asked the plant manager, he would give you a tour, but not sure if you would be allowed to film. Also, the Cedarville quarry is part of the Brassfield deposit, but the properties of the limestone were different. Wright Patterson AFB would allow Phillipsburg limestone ( it met their specs), but would not allow the Cedarville material 🤷🏼♂️. Another old quarry that is now a park is located on Olive Rd in Trotwood. The park is called Madison Lakes and was donated by American Aggregates (formerly headquartered in Greenville) as a park before the purchase of American Agg by Martin Marietta. I have not been to any of these places in decades, but I think you might enjoy exploring them, and hopefully you can get a tour of Phillipsburg or Cedarville!! And btw… Happy New Year
